Once you’ve chosen some specialty, it’s time to hit the books. Of course you have no obligation to learn anything in particular - quiz bowl is meant to be enjoyable, after all.
For instance, Cornell will have the best science player in the nation and one of the best history players as well next year, so if you’re aiming for a spot on the A team it would make sense to try establishing yourself as a music/fine arts player (which you say you already specialize in) or maybe a social sciences player. Your choice of subject in college should be some combination of what you’re interested in and what your team needs. In practice it’s very similar to the list studying you’re describing but with the added benefit of pulling information directly from the source.
Most of the time, the most efficient way to study for quiz bowl is to read older quiz bowl questions and study topics that come up. The most important one is the packet database, which has every non-NAQT packet released in the last twenty or so years. The first thing I’ll talk about is study resources. First off, congrats on getting into Cornell! They have an active program and have been making waves in the college scene recently so it’s a great place to make your debut in collegiate quiz bowl.
